TRIBUTE TO MONDRIAN IN NEW YORK

The Dutch jazz singer Vivienne Aerts and pastry chef Ted Steinebach team up to create a perfect synergy between music, sweets, art and interactive entertainment, inspired by Dutch artist Piet Mondrian. Combined with interesting facts and stories about Mondrian’s life in New York by historian/writer Willem Post, this evening is a true tribute to Mondrian as an artist, as well as a liberty icon

MONDRIAN TO DUTCH DESIGN - 100 YEARS OF DE STIJL

The De Stijl movement was launched exactly one hundred years ago. The Netherlands marks the centenary in 2017 with a year-long program of events under the title Mondrian to Dutch Design - 100 years of De Stijl. Piet Mondrian is among the best-known artists involved in this international art movement. The greatest Mondrian collection on earth and of one of the world’s major De Stijl collections are located in the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.

In September 1938, Mondrian left mainland Europe in the face of advancing fascism and moved, via London to New York, the ultimate beacon of freedom, where he would remain until his death in 1944. His unfinished Victory Boogie Woogie that he made in NY was without a doubt his most famous painting. Its bright and lively colors reflect the upbeat music that inspired Mondrian and the city in which they were made.
