TNC JAZZ - Rose Ellis

Friday 19th of May 2017 8pm - 10pm

On Friday, May 19th we proudly present a new edition of TNC JAZZ. This time young and talented Dutch jazz singer Rose Ellis will sing songs from her new album 'Like songs like moons'.

New York based Dutch vocalist and songwriter Rose Ellis has a remarkable sensitivity for lyrics and melody. She recently released her album ‘Like Songs Like Moons’ which was received by critics as a “first rate debut album” (All About Jazz) and a “refreshing and lyrical centerpiece” (Albore jazz Japan).

The album is an “obvious labor of love” and contains mainly original compositions and some carefully chosen covers such as the poignant ‘Preacher Boy’ written by Billie Holiday which was never recorded before. For the composition ‘Early In The Morning’ Rose received the ASCAP Composers Award 2016 at Lincoln Center.

Rose is “a real storyteller”(JazzFlits) and adds weight to her lyrics with her “crystal clear intonation, adept phrasing and luminescent spirit” (Dan McClenaghan). While much of her inspiration comes from jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae and Billie Holiday, Rose always seeks to be original, relating to the world as it is today. Her concerts are intimate, engaging and exceptionally moving.

The band features some of New York’s leading musicians: Glenn Zaleski on piano (Ravi Coltrane, Lage Lund, Ari Hoening), Pablo Menares on bass (Melissa Aldana, Claudia Acuna) and Jay Sawyer on drums (Dee Dee Bridgewater, Benito Gonzalez).
