V: VIRTUE OF VICTORY
Friday 5th of May 2017 8pm - 10pm
On Friday, May 5th - Liberation Day in The Netherlands - The Netherland Club of NY presents 'V: Virtue of Victory'. An impressive, beautiful and shocking play about the lives of two young women during the Second World War, written and performed by Dutch actress Thirsa van Til.
Based on verbatim accounts by the historical figures and Thirsa’s own interviews, this solo piece interweaves the narratives of Truus Menger, a Dutch resistance fighter during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II - and Traudl Junge, Adolf Hitler’s personal secretary until his death in the Führerbunker. Aged just 17 and 22 when the war started, both women made life-altering choices of which they could predict neither the outcomes, nor the extent to which they would shape their postwar lives.
Originally titled Om in de Overwinning te Geloven (“To Believe in Victory”), the production has enjoyed a successful run in the Netherlands and has been presented annually for the past four years to coincide with Dutch Remembrance Day commemorations.
Thirsa van Til is a classical trained actress, born in The Netherlands and currently living and working in the USA. Starting acting at the age of 6, Thirsa finally studied acting at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands. After her graduation, Thirsa was granted with two scholarships and studied abroad at the Stella Adler Studio in New York. Since 2009 she has been working as an actress for several Dutch theater, film and television productions.
